Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Continues Search for Missing Kayaker

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is looking for the body of a missing kayaker.

Three kayakers were near Cody Park around 6:30 p.m. Monday night when two kayakers were pulled into a sand pit where they flipped over. One of the kayakers was able to escape while the other was pulled into the river. The other two tried to pull the third person out, but they were unable get the third kayaker out.

"The deputies found that he indeed capsized and was missing and believed to have drowned in the sand pit," said Lincoln County Sheriff Jerome Kramer.

The Nebraska Game and Parks and Lincoln County Dive Team are currently searching the North Platte River for the 20-year-old third kayaker.

Authorities have identified the missing kayaker as Samson Charles of Tanzania. He was a student at North Platte Community College.
