Bear Fair teaches little cubs the "bear necessities" about health and safety

Young cubs learn the "bear" necessities, and get their paws on a good book.

Kids crawl in the bear den for a special story time at the Grand Island Public Library.

The Bear Fair is a long running event, that promotes childhood literacy but also lets little cubs deal with health and safety professionals.

Library Assistant Elle Supencheck said, “It is a community thing so it makes the kids and parents aware of different opportunities and organizations in the community and gets them information about things they might not know about.”

Kids are encouraged to bring their stuffed buddies for blood pressure checks, weighing and measuring, and “bearobics”.

Due to planned remodeling at the library, the event was limited to one day this year. The evening session runs from 5-8 pm on Tuesday, January 30.
