Food drive helps UNK's Big Blue Cupboard
A donation drive throughout the UNK campus helps provide nearly 1,000 pounds worth of food to UNK's Big Blue Cupboard.
The College of Natural and Social Sciences hosted a campus-wide competition between departments on Monday. Many faculty and students brought in donations during the day.
Organizers say the food pantry helps both the community on and off campus, and donations like this show how much everyone cares.
"There's a lot of students who don't have, that aren't from the area so they really to depend on the food bank when campus dining hours aren't open so it just helps fill that need," said UNK's College of Natural and Social Sciences Outreach and Service Committee member Holly Peterson.
"It's very nice to see them just being able to give back and contribute," said Big Blue Cupboard volunteer Valeria Lozano. "And kind of just, it shows that it's part of the UNK community, all that giving."
Nearly $1,000 was also donated at Monday's food drive. The winning department will get a traveling trophy for a year.
