Fundraiser sends people "over the edge" of downtown GI landmark
A new fundraiser aims to send people "over the edge"
Forget the wine and purses fundraiser they have been doing, the Grand Island YWCA is going to allow people the chance to rappel from one of the city's tallest buildings.
Tower 217, the former Masonic temple, will be the site of the event coming in August.
Leaders at the YWCA hope it's a fun event that fits their mission.
Mandy Burkett said, “We're going for something adventurous and empowering and that's going to going to give a little different light to women and our strength.”
They hope to get 60 people to participate on August 5, and each must raise $1,000.
The goal is to raise $60,000, which could help the YWCA expand programs.
Those who rappel are called “edgers” and are encouraged to register at www.overtheedgecwe.com/grandisland.
