Lincoln Police Department has arrested a man who is suspected to be involved in a Hastings homicide.

Deante Mullen was arrested by UNL Police Department at 11 p.m. Monday.

UNLPD said they were informed by LPD about the possible suspect returning to Lincoln. UNLPD officers located Mullen at the Casey’s Convenience store at 3291 Holdrege Street.

Mullen also had an active LPD warrant for theft and failing to appear in court according to court documents.

According to LPD, UNLPD officers took Mullen into custody and located narcotics and a stolen firearm in his possession. The firearm was stolen out of Abilene, KS and was tucked between the driver’s seat and the center console according to Lincoln Police.

Police said they gave Mullen verbal commands, he ran towards the car, where the firearm was. UNLPD officers were able to take Mullen into custody during this escalating situation.

UNLPD and LPD worked together and lodged Mullen on multiple charges including his warrant.

LPD lodged Mullen for possession of a stolen firearm.

UNLPD lodged Mullen on four counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a firearm while committing a felony, possession of money while violating statute 28-416, refusing to comply with order of a police officer.

"Mr mullen was arrested by the UNL police depart on a Lancaster county warrant. Its my understanding that we was in possession of some items or some property that that may lead to additional charges in Lancaster country and we are continuing to investigate the death of mr Hansen," Hastings Police Sargent Brian Hessler said.

Right now they're not ruling out the possibility of additional suspects.

"There's a lot of leads that we're following up on. There's a lot of information there's a lot of things that are happening it's a very fluid investigation there's a lot of moving parts all at once, Theresa lot of investigators and officers who are working very hard to see this case get resolved so there's just a lot of things we're working on all at once," Hessler said.

The body of 19-year-old Jose Hansen was discovered Monday around 6 a.m. on the 700 block of G Street near the intersection of Lincoln Ave.

According to Hastings police, Hansen died of a gun shot wound.
