Hit & run suspect caught after leaving bumper at scene
A Grand Island teenager spent some time in jail this weekend after leaving a large piece of evidence at the scene of a hit and run.
G.I. Police said Cristian Echeverria, 18, was speeding near Wedgewood and Locust Streets around 9:30 p.m. on St. Patrick's day when he tried to pass a car in the turn lane and hit it.
Captain Jim Duering said he threatened the driver of that car before taking off, leaving his bumper and license plate at the scene. Officers caught up with him at East Charles and South Kimball Streets.
Duering said Echeverria then spit on police.
He was jailed on several offenses including, terroristic threats, open container, DUI and minor in possession of alcohol.
