Man found in critical condition dies, police determine it a homicide

The Grand Island Police Department wasn't sure if it was a crime or an accident, in the case involving the unresponsive man in Grand Island, but it has now turned into a homicide investigation.

According to a press release, the man identified as Abdulma Jeed Abdulrahman Khamis, 41, suffered a head injury after an assault on Friday, April 14.

On Friday, police responded to the scene at 504 West Louise Street where Abdulma Khamis was found unresponsive. The man who lives at the house nearest to where Khamis was found said he was at work when the incident occurred.

Police believe Khamis, who was homeless, was assaulted and suffered serious head trauma, which eventually led to his death on Wednesday.

Weeks before, Khamis was on the Hall County Sherriff’s wanted list for failure to appear in court and failure to pay fines.

Police said this is an active and ongoing investigation, and they will have more updates as it becomes available.
