Students get an educational experience at the Outdoor Discovery Program

Fort Kearney Expo is aimed to correlate activities with Nebraska State Standards in the areas of science, math, history, reading, and writing.

The Fort Kearny Outdoor Expo was at Fort Kearny State Recreation Area.

Thousands of fourth, fifth and sixth grade students learned things like hunting skills, shooting sports and camping skills.

The expo is a free event where students get hands-on experience to explore different outdoor activities while learning outdoor skills.

Jeff Rawlinson, the Education Manager at Nebraska Game and Parks says it is amazing to see how the kids respond to the different activities.

"You get kids coming out here for the first time. You just walk up to an activity and close your eyes and listen to them you'll here a lot of oohs, and aahs and how cool, and I did it. Their achieving things, they're learning things."

The expo was put on by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.

Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. is the last day to participate.
