Wigs for Kids accepting donations at Cozad Relay for Life event

Wigs for Kids accepting donations at Cozad Relay for Life event.

A Relay For Life team of cosmetologists will be cutting hair to be donated to Wigs For Kids during this year’s American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Dawson County.

Tara Hieter and Rhondea Nicholson, both of Gothenburg; and Andrea Johnson and Crystal Contreras, both of Lexington will be at Veterans Memorial Park in Cozad on Friday, June 2, starting at 6:30 p.m. during Relay For Life. Stylists will have the equipment ready to cut and snip to help children who lose their hair.

While donations will be the primary goal of their time at Relay, both said they would do haircuts for a suggested donation of $10 when not busy with Wigs for Kids.

Wigs for Kids hair donation requirements:

- Hair must be a minimum of 12 inches.

- Hair cannot be chemically processed or colored.

- Natural color or highlights that wash out are accepted.

- Cannot accept gray hair.

- Hair must be completely dry before mailing.

For over 30 years, Wigs for Kids has been providing Hair Replacement Systems and support for children who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy, radiation therapy, Alopecia, Trichotillomania, burns and other medical issues at no cost to children or their families.

Because families are not charged for hair replacements, the organization depends on generous people who want to help donate hair for cancer and other sources of hair loss. It takes 20 to 30 ponytails or braids to create one Hair Replacement.
