The nation reacts to the death of Fox News founder Roger Ailes
WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) - Roger Ailes, former president of Fox News Channel, died early Thursday from bleeding on the brain resulting from a fall last week, according to the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner's Office.
Ailes fell in his bathroom, hit his head and began to bleed profusely. Paramedics took him to the hospital for medical care, the Palm Beach (Florida) Police Department said. Ailes later died as a result of that injury. He was 77.
The former TV and communications expert was responsible for launching Fox News Channel. Ailes was forced to resign in 2016 amid several sexual harrasment accusations from current and former employees. One of the more emotional reactions to the news came from Fox’s breaking news anchor Shepard Smith who likened the former CEO to a father figure.
Many of the channel’s reporters as well as prominent figures took to Twitter to express their condolences for the late executive.
But not everyone had pleasant words to say about Ailes. BET News host Marc Lamont Hill and lawyer Lisa Bloom had much more visceral reactions.
