Makenna Niemoth: NTV's Athlete of the Week
Doniphan Trumbull volleyball has raced out to a 10–1 start.
The Cardinals have turned to senior outside hitter Makenna Niemoth to lead the way.
"You know she's really developed the last three years when I started coaching here when she was a sophomore she's become tremendously more confident in herself and her abilities and is okay with making a mistake and turning around and fixing that on the next play," said Doniphan-Trumbull head coach Gina Fitch.
Last week Doniphan–Trumbull played 7 games in 4 days.
The cardinals came away with 6 wins despite a short turnaround, and in those 6 victories, Makenna tallied 86 kills to go along with 53 digs.
"I just really try and focus on what I'm doing and mentally just preparing myself for what I'm going to have to do for that game. I look at who the best hitters are and see what we have to do to win the game," said Niemoth, NTV's Athlete of the Week.
Last year was the first winning record for Doniphan-Trumbull in at least 10 years.
With Makenna being a senior she wants to send the Cardinals out in style, and that begins with a trip to state.
"We're just going to h
ave to play our game sometimes we just like to play with the teams, rather we just have to learn to how to finish the games and play our game rather than looking at what other people are doing," said Niemoth.
Congratulations to Makenna Niemoth, who is NTV's Athlete of the Week.
