Iowa home runs propel Hawkeyes to series opening win
Iowa clubbed three home runs which produced six of the seven runs they scored, beating Nebraska 7-6 in ten innings Friday at Haymarket Park.
Chad Luensmann pitched three full innings for Nebraska, but could not overcome the Hawkeye bats. He escaped a bases loaded situation in the ninth inning, but allowed an RBI single in the top of the tenth which proved to be the game winner.
Luis Alvarado had a great night hitting, going 4 of 5 with two runs scored. In the fourth inning, Nebraska scored four times, building their lead to 5-3. Alvarado also scored in the fifth to make it 6-3.
Jake Hohensee had a bumpy ride as he took the mound for his eighth start of the season, giving up eight hits and six earned runs in 5.1 innings.
Nebraska and Iowa meet again on Saturday, 6 p.m. CT and wrap up the series at 2 p.m. on Sunday, airing live on BTN.
