Northwestern snaps Broncos 24 game win streak

Hastings College volleyball has lived up to their number 1 ranking and then some. Entering today's match with Northwestern College, the Broncos had won 24 straight games, and 30 straight sets.

The fans at Lynn Farrell got their money's worth.

Set four, Andrea LaVene part of that dominant Bronco front line. She denies the Raiders at the net. One of seven players from HC with at least three blocks.

Later on in set five, Hastings Cassidy Ostrand drills one over the net adding another Broncos point. She Finished the night leading the team with 11 kills.

But Northwestern stayed in the game thanks to Anna Kiel racking up 19 kills plus five blocks on the night.

Northwestern College pulls off the upset in the 5th set, 15–11. First loss for Hastings College since November 2, 2016.

They were scrappy, they made very low errors, they didn't make a lot of bad errors so credit to them they played well," head coach Matt Buttermore said. "First two sets I don't think we had any blocks, so that made a difference in the game starting the way it did," Buttermore continued. "Then we kind of caught up, but at that point they were very confident in their swings, so we were kind of on the back foot."

The Broncos return to the court at home Oct. 4. facing Midland University at 7:30 PM.
