Sweep city moniker lives on for Hastings

SIOUX CITY, IA --- Hastings College extended its streak of consecutive sets won to 30 and nine straight matches without dropping a set, topping Briar Cliff (-17, -13, -15) Saturday in at the Newman Flanagan Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Andrea LaVene, who's making an early case to be recognized as an NAIA All-American in the middle, tied with Katie Placke (an All-American in her own right) with nine kills. LaVene hit an astounding .615 against the Chargers and Placke registered a .318. As a team, the Broncos hit .316 and got better in each set of the night (.188, .381, .423).

Lucy Skoch continues to amaze in the middle as a true freshman. The St. Cecilia (Hastings) product was in on eight block assists, helping the Broncos to 12.0 in the match. Briar Cliff, in comparison, finished with 1.0.

Casey Krolikowski had seven kills (.278) while Cassidy Ostrand had five (.143) and Cat Williams had four (.375) for the Broncos.

Hastings College (14-0, 6-0 GPAC) returns home Saturday when No. 11 Northwestern (17-1, 4-0 GPAC) visits Lynn Farrell Arena.
