Cinderella season cut short in Lincoln for South Loup
LINCOLN --- A heavy dose of Dalton Bohac passing touchdowns helped East Butler surpass South Loup, 36-14, in the Nebraska D1 state championship game Monday at Memorial Stadium.
Turnovers were the name of the game for the Tigers, who recovered three fumbles and also had three interceptions. East Butler was able to capitalize behind big plays with touchdowns of 57, 46, and 34 yards against the Bobcats.
Bohac, the Tiger quarterback, threw five touchdowns on his ten passing completions, including three in the first half, on his way to 192 yards through the air. Jaden Rhynalds scored a touchdown on both of his catches, while Trevor Havolvic caught the same number of touchdowns, finishing with six receptions on the day for 82 yards.
South Loup, who came into the game with a good rushing offense, struggled to 90 yards on the day rushing. Senior quarterback Jack Rush threw for 193 yards and two touchdowns, but he had three interceptions including one deep in East Butler territory. Cade Connell caught six passes for 116 yards and a touchdown.
This was East Butler's second appearance in a D1 championship and the Tigers are now two-for-two in title games. South Loup was playing in the first football state championship as a school.
