Depth drives Wilcox-Hildreth boys to victory

The Wilcox-Hildreth basketball team breaks a huddle on Jan. 3, 2018 (KHGI)

2017 has been another great year for the boys of Wilcox–Hildreth basketball.

The Falcons are off to their best start since winning 14 straight in the 2014-15 season.

"A great group of kids, they come into work every day and do what we want them to do," said head coach Matthew Nelson in his first year.

There’s only five D2 programs who have at least nine wins on the season like the Wil-Hil group entering Thursday. The biggest drive behind their greatness this year is because of a top loaded roster of upperclassmen.

"I think just team work, we've worked as a team this year, I think that's one of our biggest goals," senior Lantz Grauerholz says. "We've just been able to flow some more offense and our defense has been lights out for most of our games."

With five seniors and four juniors, the Falcons credit their fortune to chemistry and unity.

"We came in with a lot of depth, and a lot of experience on our teams," said Nelson.

"It's been fun because we've played so many good games, and we've played as a team really well," added Caleb Springer, a senior guard. "It helps because we've had everybody together for three years now, between the juniors and seniors."

See how they do Friday night when the 9-3 Wicox-Hildreth Falcons venture to the home of the 8-4 Loomis Wolves.
