Several central Nebraska wrestlers shine at districts

Walker of Elm Creek recorded his 100th win and the class D District 3 title in 195.

District wrestling concluded across Nebraska. In Class B district 4, Lexington ended day 1 in the lead with 48 points however there was still plenty of matches for the taking this afternoon.

Fighting for a spot in the finals in the 145 weight class, Holdrege's Zac Hurlbert took over the mat recording three takedowns against Chadron. Earning a win by dec, 6-4. Lost in the championship 10-4 decision.

Lexington fighting to keep their team lead, find a boost in senior Tomas Margritz, pinning his opponent in the second period. Adding six more for the minutemen. Falls in championship, 5-0.

There's more where that came from in the 160 pounders, how about Pierro Garcia pounding his way to two take downs. Taking a win by dec. 4-2 over Scottsbluff. He loses in the championship. 10-7 decision.

Jumping up to the 182 boys, Holdrege owned the mat again with Prestin Melroy wasting no time getting a pin in the first period over Cozad. 182 champ with a MD 18-5.

Lexington finishes second with 152 points, Sidney takes first place.


Class D District three wrapped up today over in Elm Creek.

In the 195 semi-finals, Preston Walker fighting to defend his home mat, locks his South Loup opponent down for a first period pin. Recording his 100th career win. Walker won his weight class.

Moving up to the 220 pounders, Cole Rosenkrans got the job done for St. Mary's rumbling throwing down his man for two takedowns. He wins the 220 championship 3-2.

Heading over to the big guys in 285, Axtell senior AJ Skaggs dominated the mat right out of the gates toppling his opponent in an early first period pin. Skaggs is your champion at 285. Dec. 2-0.

Elm Creek places second. Pender takes first.
