Grand Island knocks off Hastings

Noah Halsey slides home to score the third run of the game for Grand Island on June 21, 2018 (KHGI)

For only the second time this year, Hastings Five Points came out on the wrong side of a senior legion game.

Will Nordhues provided three hits for Home Federal and Grand Island got 4.2 solid innings of pitching from Cole Evans to top Hastings, 6-2, in a game postponed from Tuesday because of severe weather.

Home Federal broke out with three runs in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead including an RBI double from Will Nordhues.

Hastings scored again in the fifth, but a two-run deficit was the closest they could get. Grand Island got some insurance runs in the sixth and seventh for the final difference.

Offense was the biggest factor as Grand Island had Nordhues, Evans, Casey Burnham and Gerard Dunning combined for nine of the 12 Home Federal hits.

At 20-2, Hastings has a couple of games at Duncan Field this weekend. Grand Island Home Federal improves to 15-6 on the season.
