Islanders limit Southwest offense in conference semifinal
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. —
Grand Island Senior High got an 11-strikeout, complete game from senior Shay Schanaman to top Lincoln Southwest in the Heartland Athletic Conference semifinal, 4-1, Thursday at Ryder Park.
Not only did he earn the win on the mound behind one earned run on seven hits, Schanaman got the game winning knock for the second time today. The Nebraska commit hit a two-run single to center in the bottom of the third to give Grand Island a 2-0 lead. Schanaman went 2 of 3 from the dish with a double and two RBI.
Islander senior Gage Rose also went 2 of 3 from the plate and he had the only other RBI for Grand Island with a run-scoring single in the fifth.
The Islanders gave up a run in the top of the fifth inning, but it was the only shred of offense mustered up by the Silver Hawks.
Grand Island takes on Lincoln Southeast on Friday at 11:30 a.m. for the conference title.
