Kuxhausen carries Scottsbluff past Leininger, Aurora
Dru Kuxhausen scored 16 points on 16 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter alone, helping Scottsbluff hold off Aurora for the second year in a row in the Class B semifinals, 76-67.
Aurora kept charging back in the fourth quarter, led by Tommy Leininger, who scored 38 points in the game and 25 of those in the final frame.
Kuxhausen was a load for the Huskies to handle, though. He scored 20 points in the fourth quarter and had a game high of 39.
Aurora took a 17-14 lead after the first quarter, only for the Bearcats to lead by six at halftime and increase it to eight by the end of the third.
This is Aurora's only loss to a Class B team on the season, and it ends their hopes of a boys basketball state championship in three decades. The last time coming in 1987.
Scottsbluff plays top-seeded Gretna in the state championship at Pinnacle Bank Arena, Saturday, 1:00 p.m. CT.
