'Blessing of the Backpacks' gives Aurora kids extra support for new school year
AURORA, Neb. —
An Aurora congregation gave students a little extra support as they get ready to go back to school.
Pastors at the United Methodist Church invited kids to bring their backpacks to church on Sunday morning for a special blessing and prayer for when they start their new semester later this week.
Pastor Michelle Reed said doing something like this helps kids understand that their church is praying for them during their school days.
"School can be a really stressful time for kids, kindergarten on up, so having that realization that someone is praying for them and someone has given them a blessing for their day might just get them over the hump on a hard day," said United Methodist Church Pastor Michelle Reed.
Kids were also given a tag with a bible verse to put on their backpacks.
Current and retired teachers, administrators and older students were also given a blessing during the service.
