Start the Year Running: A new 5k comes to Hastings
HASTINGS, Neb. —
There's a new event coming to the Hastings area. It's aimed at getting school staff moving and excited for the upcoming school year.
The first Start the Year Running walk and 5K is open to Hastings Public School staff and their families.
With about 300 participants already signed up, the superintendent said this new event is a part of their wellness program.
"We really believe that our staff needs to be healthy and that this helps to promote healthy living," said Hastings Public Schools superintendent Craig Kautz. "We also believe that if our staff is doing things, they're modeling healthy behavior for our kids and we want both staff and students to live well and to have healthy lives."
There's no cost for participants. The superintendent said fees are covered by wellness funds and they're excited to kick the event off.
"Something very new, something fun we hope for the participants and I myself am going to try to run in the event and hopefully finish with the 88 degree, 90 degree temperatures we might have," said Kautz.
The race is August 9 beginning at about 5:00, starting at the Hastings Senior High.
