Legislature district 38 candidates for November general election
Voters in legislative District 38 selected Marsha Fangmeyer and Dave Murman to advance to November's general election.
Current state Sen. John Kuehn is not running for re-election.
District 38 includes Phelps, Kearney, Franklin, Webster, Nuckolls, Clay, and part of Buffalo Counties.
Both Fangmeyer and Murman pointed to tax relief as focus if elected.
"I'll do everything I can to keep taxes low. I believe in limited government and local control, and that is the way, you know, keep spending down, efficient government," said Murman, who also talked about economic development as a way to fight the tax burden.
"We need to figure out how to tackle the issue of the high property taxes and, of course, supporting our schools," said Fangmeyer. "The formula for state aid to schools needs to be looked at again. The 14 schools in our district get very little state aid, which, of course, has an impact on the property taxes."
Fangmeyer also said she'd look at ways to increase the tax base and overhaul the state's tax structure.
