As Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of the summer travel season, motorists may expect a slight increase in gas prices leading up to the holiday.

According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the current average price for regular gasoline stands at $3.39 per gallon, reflecting a mere two-cent rise from the previous week.

However, compared to a month ago, gas prices have actually decreased by 12 cents, offering some relief to travelers. When compared to this time last year, gas prices have dropped significantly by nearly 80 cents.

In a positive trend, AAA reports that diesel prices are continuing to decline.

The average price for diesel in the state currently stands at $3.71 per gallon, marking a three-cent decrease from the previous week and a substantial decline of $1.46 from the same period last year.
