Brown County is taking steps to honor their veterans with a permanent memorial in Ainsworth.

Officials broke ground last week and they hope to start laying down the first concrete later this month.

The memorial will be paid for with a $60,000 grant from the city of Ainsworth and $7,000 from the American Legion, they're hoping for more donations so people won't have to pay to put names on the memorial.

The memorial will sit southwest of the county courthouse and it will include a stone to honor veterans who lived in Brown County..

Officials hope it will be completed by spring 2019, which marks the centennial of the American Legion.
