UPDATE: A California judge has signed an arrest warrant for Maurice Washington, III, officially making it active.

A University of Nebraska - Lincoln running back is reportedly facing child pornography and "revenge pornography" charges stemming from a video he allegedly sent to an ex-girlfriend.

According to the District Attorney's Office in Santa Clara County, Calif., Husker running back Maurice Washington III is accused of felony possession of child pornography and misdemeanor posting without consent. Both charges are based in California.

The video he is accused of sharing contains explicit content of a sexual assault involving an ex-girlfriend, who was 15 years old at the time the video was created.

Washington, 19, is accused of keeping the video and then sharing it back to the ex-girlfriend in March 2018. He is not accused of being involved in the sexual assault.

The Santa Clara County DA said an arrest warrant is pending, but has not yet been signed by a judge. They said the warrant was written up on Dec. 17.

They said if the warrant is signed, there are two scenarios that could unfold. California officials could choose to seek a Nebraska arrest warrant so Washington could be taken into custody by local officers, or Washington could choose to fly back to California on his own accord and turn himself in.

University of Nebraska - Lincoln's Athletic Department issued the following statement regarding the allegations:

Last fall we were contacted by the Nebraska Attorney General’s office and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln police department and made aware that officials in California were interested in interviewing Maurice Washington about a prior incident. Details were not shared and there was no additional follow up with the Nebraska Athletic Department. Recently, we were made aware that charges may be filed against Maurice in California. We have not had a chance to review the charges, and will continue to monitor this ongoing legal process.

Information from the Nebraska Attorney General's office indicates that some officials knew about an investigation since August, saying a Santa Clara, Calif. detective called their office to get a statement from Washington about the investigation. Washington's attorney declined to give a statement on his behalf at the time.
