Text messaging service hopes to help Nebraska Veterans
Veterans Affairs (VA) is introducing a text messaging service to help Veterans of the Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System (NWIHCS) manage their own health.
The new system is called Annie and is named after Anne G. Fox, the first woman to receive a Purple Heart.
The VA says when a health care team registers a Veteran to use Annie, they will get automated text messages that motivates them regarding specific health issues. After a reply is sent back to Annie from the Veteran, the system will let them know how they are doing.
"Using Annie is like having your own nurse by your side, as the system can provide medication reminders, exercise prompts and smoking cessation messages in addition to other offers," according to a Veterans Affair press release.
To get started with the system, NWIHCS Veterans should contact their health care teams.
