United Way of South Central Nebraska exceeds fundraising goal

Big news out of the United Way of South Central Nebraska.

The organization said they've exceeded their fundraising goal for this past year, raising over $533,000.

They say this is a huge jump over the previous year when they say they raised $511,000.

On Monday, the chapter hosted its 77th annual meeting where they released their latest fundraising figures for the area. The organization said a big portion of the money collected came from Hastings' biggest employers.

"Paperworks Packaging was up 150 percent over last year and that really truly goes back to the company. They're community minded and they want to make Hastings and the surrounding areas a better place. Employees really respond to that and they want to work for a good company that really cares for the people living here," said Michelle Henke, Executive Director for the United Way of South Central Nebraska.

Jeremy Anderson, the fundraiser co-chair for the organization, said it was very impressive how many employees and other folks in the community decided to give back.

"It was a real surprise given where we are in the economy locally and things like that. We've set a goal of $500,000 hoping to achieve that. We never want to be the campaign chair that doesn't make it, and this year to exceed is very fulfilling and it really says a lot about the support the community has for United Way,” Anderson said.

Monday’s meeting also consisted of a change of officers. Hastings attorney Matt Lauck will be taking over the chapter's chairman position.
