Several injured after van crashes into Outback Steakhouse, roof collapses

A van crashed into the back of an Outback Steakhouse in Savannah, Georgia on Feb. 16, 2018.(WTGS)

Savannah police are investigating crash into Outback Steakhouse on 11196 Abercorn Street around 7 p.m. Friday.

The crash broke a gas line and caused a section of the roof over the kitchen of the restaurant to collapse, according to the Savannah Fire Department.

The building was evacuated. Seven people were hurt.

The driver, 42-year-old David Lanier of Rincon, lost consciousness before the cash, according to police.

Savannah police confirmed seven employees were injured. Three of the victims were sent to Augusta Burn for treatment. The injuries ranged from minor to life-threatening.

Police say there was no fire, and the victim's burns were from grease.

Savannah Fire also confirmed that a pregnant woman was injured by the damaged ceiling.

The crash remains under investigation.
