According to Deuel County District Court records, Joel Foster, 38, was given the sentence on one count of first-degree sexual assault of a child. He was given credit for 253 days served.
Foster pleaded no contest to the charge in March. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dismissed an additional count of first-degree sexual assault of a child, one count of sexual abuse by a school employee and two counts of committing intentional child abuse-no injury.

The charges stem from an investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol that began last September when troopers received information that an employee at South Platte Public Schools in Big Springs had inappropriate contact with a student. An arrest warrant was issued for Foster as part of the investigation, and he was arrested.
An affidavit detailing the case is not listed in court records. However, a complaint outlining the charges says the alleged incident occurred between Jan. 1, 2022, and Sept. 14, 2022, and involved a 16-year-old child.
