Conundrum at quarterback for the time being
The old saying goes, "If you have two quarterbacks, you have none."
Nebraska's got several options at the quarterback position and who gets the starting gig is far from solved at this juncture.
"I don't know how close it is, but our motto is day by day, and so those guys know that they've got to come to practice ready and prepared," offensive coordinator Troy Walters said Wednesday.
Frost and his staff have put a lot of emphasis on this being anyone's spot, and now almost a week in, coaches are still waiting to see some separation from the pack.
"Mario is switching up the reps, so they're all getting plenty of reps, and they understand that we're not going to make a decision today," Walters said. "We got some scrimmages coming up and we're going to put them in some live situations."
The top two look like Tristan Gebbia and Adrian Martinez, with both men standing out as they shared first–team reps Wednesday.
"Really, we all get our share; Me, (Andrew) Bunch, Tristan, we get our reps," freshman Adrian Martinez said. "Really it's just our job to really stick to our job. We need to hand off the ball and keep it to where we need to throw our reads. I wouldn't say there's something specific, but we need to just prove ourselves on the field."
Martinez had the most name recognition after the Red–White spring game seeing him grab 174 yards of offense and four total touchdowns.
