Bronco upset streak knocked off by Morningside

Drew Callaghan (33) of Hastings College prepares for the opening tip at Morningside as Bart Hiscock (21) and Kevin Miller (1) get positioned, Jan. 31, 2018, in Sioux City, Iowa (KHGI)

The Hastings College men's basketball team got off to a very slow start against No. 9 Morningside and would never recover falling to the Mustangs 95-65 on Wednesday night.

Morningside raced out to a quick 7-0 lead forcing a timeout by the Broncos before Bart Hiscock ended the run with a layup out of the timeout. The Mustangs would keep the pressure up shooting lights out while Hastings stayed cold from the floor as the Mustangs built a 28-10 lead midway through the first half and Hastings would be unable to recover.

The Broncos were able to cut the lead back to 13 when Jake Hansen converted on a turnover but Morningside would run off the final five points of the first half to lead by 18 at halftime.

Drew Callaghan led the way for the Broncos just missing out on a double-double scoring 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting while pulling down nine boards. Hiscock added 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting and Kevin Harkins also finished in double figures with 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting. Hanses just missed double figures with eight points.

Hastings falls to 16-9 (6-7) on the season and will be back in action Saturday Feb. 3 as Morningside comes to town with tip-off set for 4:00 p.m. in Lynn Farrell Arena.
