Ghaifan stands out in sophomore year

Wyoming defensive lineman Youhanna Ghaifan celebrates a sack against Colorado State, Nov. 4, 2017 (KHGI)

One of the in-state products who got away from Nebraska is making a name for himself in Laramie, Wyo., as Youhanna Ghaifan earned first–team All-Mountain West as a defensive tackle for the Wyoming Cowboys.

The kid who prepped at Grand Island Central Catholic (Grand Island, Neb.) has already nearly doubled his tackles and tripled those taking place behind the line of scrimmage from his first year to his second.

"I’m a lot stronger now compared to last season and I just feel like I’m a lot more explosive than I was," Ghaifan says. "I think just confidence, getting another year under my belt because I just saw how last year went and I kind of just want to take it to another level."

Ghaifan, a sophomore, has 64 tackles, 13.0 for loss, and 5.0 sacks with a chance to add to those totals.

Wyoming finished second in the Mountain Division of the MWC at 5-3 in the conference and 7-5 overall. The Cowboys will be playing in a bowl game this year.
