Nebraska left out of NCAA tournament field, chosen by NIT

The Nebraska basketball team stands on the court before the beginning of a game.

68 teams heard their names called on the NCAA selection show and by this point you probably know Nebraska wasn't one of them. Big Red was given the cold shoulder by the selection committee despite winning 22 games. The Huskers are the 3rd team since the Tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985 to win 13 league games and not earn an invite to the Dance.

To make matters worse, the NIT wasn't all that high on Nebraska either. The Huskers were chosen as a 5 seed, meaning they were never under consideration for an NCAA tournament bid. NU will travel to Mississippi State, a team they defeated back in October as part of a charity basketball game.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Huskers as they face the Bulldogs in Starkville on Wednesday at 8 pm. The contest will be televised on ESPN2.
