KEARNEY, Neb. — Senior Claire Vanderbeek led the Bearcats with 12 kills as Kearney improved to 10-3 this season, defeating Lincoln High( -15. -18. -21) Tuesday night.
The Bearcats collectively hit .300 as a team and no one was better than sophomore Lily Novacek, who slugged her way to a .600 hitting percentage behind 11 kills.
Up one set to none in the second, Kearney used an 8-0 run while Ashton Mehlin was serving to take a 19-9 lead over the Links (8-11) and eventually win the second set by seven points. Mehlin tied Vanderbeek for a team best two aces, one of which came during the pivotal run in the second.
Addison Wood, a junior, was the backline specialist with her 22 digs. Senior setter Alexis Mishou handed out 34 of the 38 Kearney assists.
Kearney is off until Friday when they compete at the two-day Allison Weston Invitational in Papillion, Neb.
