KEARNEY --- Elwood volleyball caught fire for the most important matches of the season and advanced to the Nebraska state volleyball tournament for the first time in school history, topping Red Cloud in five sets.

Elwood, a likely No. 8 seed for the tournament, lost in three straight sets to Red Cloud in their only meeting of the season.

The Warriors, who came into the D2-4 district final at 28-4, were second in the D2 wild card standings and Ewing, the only team ahead of them, won their D2-3 final against Riverside, locking the Warriors in as a wild-card team for the D2 bracket.
