First half shutout sends Blue Hill to title game

Blue Hill quarterback John Rouse (3) bursts through a seam in a D2 semifinal game, Nov. 13, 2017 at Mullen (KHGI)

MULLEN --- Blue Hill used a strong first half to top Mullen, 42-30, and advance to the D2 Nebraska State Championship on Monday, Nov. 20.

The Bobcats used a heavy amount of quarterback John Rouse's legs in the first half to move the ball nearly at will against the Broncos in the first half, including a 44-yard touchdown to start the scoring off for Blue Hill.

Rouse had some help in the backfield in the form of Lane Deisley, who scored from six-yards out to make it 14-0 Bobcats. The two hooked up again in the second quarter, this time on a nine-yard pass, to make it 21-0.

Mullen looked gassed in the first half, but the break seemed to re-energize the Broncos, who scored two quick touchdowns in the third quarter and made it a seven point game. But with each threat of a comeback, the Bobcats were able to hold off

Playing in one of his final games, Rouse gave his teammates one of his best performances of the year.

The senior added another 42-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to finish with 290 yards and five total touchdowns.
