GI Home Federal ready to bounce back in state tournament
Also representing the Tri–Cities in the National Division will be Grand Island Home Federal, a team who cruised into their district red–hot going 7–1 in their last eight games, but fell short to Columbus.
Heading into the fifth, the team allowed five runs to get by last two innings, ending the game 14–8.
So with little time to prep for the state tournament, the boys have hit the ground running, aiming for a stronger presence at home plate.
"Yesterday we hit over our bunt coverage, our first and thirds, our pick offs," Home Federal head coach Jake Ritzdorf said. "But today the main things is to hit on the field and build confidence."
"That's really what this week is all about and what the week leading up to districts was all about, Ritzdorf continued. "Building confidence and understanding we're a good team and what we got to do to be a good team. I think our guys understand that and are ready to roll."
"Trying to tune up the fine stuff, I mean yesterday we just did a lot of things like pick–offs and first and thirds," Casey Burnham said. "Today we'll work on a lot of hitting, but we just have to tune–up the fine stuff and we'll be OK."
Grand Island takes on Creighton Prep this Saturday in Columbus, with the first pitch scheduled at 1:00 p.m.
