Hastings ends up on downside of roller coaster game
A back-and-forth game with 21 runs went extra innings and Omaha Roncalli Catholic topped Hastings, 11-10, in 10 innings.
Trailing 8-5 in the Tigers' final at-bat, Hastings scored five times to take a 10-8 lead and only needed three outs to get the win. Junior Sam Wibbles hit a two-run double to give the Tigers the lead. However, the Crimson Pride were able to strike twice in their last at-bat and force extra innings.
Hastings surrendered six runs in the second inning as Wibbels, who started for Hastings, struggled with his control, walking the first two batters he faced and hitting another to load the bases. Wibbels also suffered a run-scoring balk in the inning.
In Tiger fashion, they were able to strike back in the top of the third with five runs of their own. Jake Schroeder and Wibbels each had three RBI on the day. Mike Boeve led the Tigers with three base hits and five quality at-bats. Tyson Bonham and Cameron Edwards were also tagged for quality at-bats.
The Tigers now play Elkhorn at 7 p.m., Wednesday, in an elimination game. The winner would play again on Thursday at 10 a.m.
