KEARNEY --- The first stage of national signing days for the school year.

Five Kearney Bearcats are moving on, including Thad Huber, who is playing baseball at Allen Community college.

He's joined by Natalya Nelson, who is swimming and diving at Colorado Mesa and Emma Weis signed up for the same sport at UNO.

Jared Wegner joins the Creighton Bluejays next fall for baseball.

"Been dreaming of it my whole life," said Wegner. "It's been one of my major goals and I accomplished that through baseball.

When I was younger, I thought it would be basketball, but I worked hard for it and really enjoyed the process."

The Bluejays finished a game under .500 (24-25) last year, but did go 11-4 in Big East games.

Bailee Sterling is playing Division I volleyball at Northern Colorado, starting in 2018, and she hopes to make an impact in her freshman year with the Bears.

"Eighth grade is when I really wanted to pursue my dreams for DI volleyball and just knowing that I actually did it is a great accomplishment and is just a weight of my shoulders to finally have it set."

Northern Colorado is 13-14 this season with two matches left on the year, plus the Big Sky Tournament, Nov. 16-18.
