St. Cecilia fends off a feisty Minden boys squad

The St. Cecilia Bluehawks used an 18-point third quarter to top Minden Thursday night in Hastings, 52-43.

Blane Boyd led the Bluehakws with 17 points and they got another 15 from Ashton Valentine with Trey Asher chipping in seven points as well. St. Cecilia outscored the Whippets by 10 in the second half, 31-21.

Minden, who had a lead of 22-21 at the half, saw Elijah Lovin score 16 points while Josh Denney dropped nine and Aidan Wheelock added another seven.

St. Cecilia improves to 8-3 on the year (3-1 versus C1 schools) and play at Kearney Catholic (2-11) on Saturday. Minden, who lost for a second consecutive time, drops to 5-5 this year (2-2 against C2 programs). The Whippets play host to McCook (5-7) this Saturday.
