Tiger rally pays off in Hastings win

There was no chance Hastings would allow a seventh inning rally to be taken away two days in a row.

For the second straight game, Hastings saved their best for the top of the seventh.

Facing Elkhorn in an elimination, the Tigers blew a 3-0 lead and trailed 5-3 with three outs remaining, only for the Tigers to hang four on the Antlers to go up 7-5 in the seventh.

The Tigers scored five runs against Omaha Roncalli on Tuesday to go from an 8-5 deficit to a 10-8 lead. Sadly for the Tigers, they lost 11-10 in 10 innings.

This time, the Tigers were able to get out of the final at-bat with the lead intact. Johnathan Cafferty led the Tiger offense with three hits while Jake Schroeder and Mike Boeve each had a pair. Josh Brooks led all batters with three RBI and Connor Laux came on for the final two innings to earn the save.

Hastings is moving on to the championship day, where they open against Norris at 10 a.m. and if they win, face Roncalli at 1 p.m. for all the marbles.

The boys of orange and black topped Norris, 3-2, in 8 innings to open their first state baseball tournament since 1942.
