Kent began his broadcasting career in June 1972 as a disc jockey for KRGI AM in Grand Island. After earning his Broadcasting Degree from Brown College in Minneapolis his television carrier began as Lead Forecaster and Sports Director for KXON-TV in the Mitchell, South Dakota going on the air for the first time anchoring both weather & sports on May 9, 1977. He also a Weather and Sports Anchor at KIFI-TV 8 in Idaho Falls, Idaho prior to returning home to Nebraska as the Weather Director/Outdoor Editor for KHAS-TV Channel 5 Hastings.

Leaving broadcasting for a while to see his kids grow up Kent was a certified LUTCF insurance agent for Primark Inc. and Rural Mail Carrier in Grand Island. In 1999 Boughton returned to television at NTV/KFXL FOX Nebraska and is the Chief Forecaster/Outdoor Editor.

Kent is an avid outdoorsman, Hunter Education Instructor, 24 year National Wild Turkey Federation Nebraska State Board Member and 2 term President who has received several prestigious awards including Field & Stream Magazines Hero's Of Conservation, Pheasants Forever & Ducks Unlimited Conservationist of the year and Safari Club International Educator of the year award to name a few.

Despite a near fatal car accident in 2009 Kent remains active by announcing many events including the Harvest of Harmony Stadium Band Competition, conservation banquets and public speaking. He is a past Grand Marshall for Harvest of Harmony.

Kent's hobbies include playing with his grandkids and dogs, hunting, fishing, singing and collecting antique beer cans.

Kent lost his High School sweetheart, Lori, to a sudden heart attack in 2017 after 38 years of marriage. Their daughter Nicole, son-in-law Donovan, grandsons Eli and Owen Anson, son Chad, daughter-in-law Jennifer and granddaughter Avery all live in Grand Island.

Despite health issues and loss, Kent maintains a positive attitude in hopes of inspiring others that with faith and a smile we can all persevere.
